Ashtanga Yoga

 

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is a dynamic practice whereby breath is synchronized with movement. Students of this form of yoga move through a sequential series of asanas (postures) in a continuous flow while practising a specific breathing technique (ujayi breath). This produces heat in the body and has an overall energising and purifying effect, as well as building strength, stamina and flexibility and bringing the body into alignment. By bringing awareness to the breath, an appreciation of the internal aspects of the practice is also developed and this in turn helps to promote deep relaxation.
